At Vendella our approach to sustainability is one of multiple focuses. Every change must be pragmatically developed, future-focused and enduring in how it improves things. This is why every sustainability measure must also be responsible for the wellbeing of our people and the ongoing financial strength of our business and that of our customers.

Our Sustainability Pillars

To build a sustainable future, we believe we must maintain a balanced approach to our Social, Economic, and Environmental commitments. Hear more from our team on our three pillars of sustainability.

We don’t believe in change for change’s sake.

Real improvement for the environment, and the people within it, requires both a ‘big picture, small details’ focus and the vision to effectively introduce and sustain lasting positive change.

So we take the time in research and development ensuring the work here covers every facet of our sustainability ethos. Innovation does not come at the expense of common sense. Nor does realism overshadow our aspiration.

We are ambitious but at all times measured. It’s not about ticking boxes or the loud, dramatic but ultimately empty measures. Instead it’s a way of doing business that ensures we are here for the long-term, caring for the demands of tomorrow and beyond. It’s important to our customers. It’s important to our people. It’s vital to our company.

Environmentally sustainable

Vendella is focusing on reducing our carbon footprint, packaging waste, natural resource usage and our overall effect on the environment. Combined with this is our strategies to off-set any outstanding effect on the environment by giving back which includes recycling:

21,873,094

plastic bottles and planting thousands of native tress throughout the country per annum.

Our Economic Pillar

The economic pillar includes compliance, proper governance, risk management and profitability. It is the inclusion of the economic pillar and profitability that makes it possible for Vendella to come on board with and embark on new sustainability strategies.
The economic pillar ensures we take a balanced and holistic approach to our efforts as without this pillar, the whole organisation is not sustainable.

Our Social Pillar

Vendella strives to have the support and approval of its employees, stakeholders and the community we operate in. Our purpose is to be respected as an organisation; internally, locally and globally. Internally we focus on retention and engagement strategies for our staff while externally, we show our support though sponsorships, fundraising initiatives, awareness campaigns, and investment in public projects.
On a global scene, we are focused on how our supply chain is filled and that suppliers are also aware of the responsibilities they hold as an integral part in our industry.

Our Social Pillar.

Our support for growing a strong, green and prosperous society is unwavering. We invest in the wellbeing of our people and our local community in the same way we do for the wellbeing of our land – with carefully measured steps that ensure the most effective and enduring of results.

We’re A Tight Knit Bunch.

We understand that New Zealand is a small place with a tight-knit population. There is huge potential for great things with strong networks and healthy partnerships. So, in our financial investment and personal commitment, we give back to the country and the communities that have allowed our company to grow and thrive.

We provide a wide range of sponsorships, fundraising initiatives, awareness campaigns and investment in public projects to help our team and our communities.

Internally, we focus on sustaining the continued advancement of our team here, with a number of retention, engagement and support strategies for our staff. Externally, we work in partnership with our customers by investing in research and communication to ensure we are always ready to support their needs and help their businesses.

In this fast-moving, ever-changing world we need to remain at the forefront of the industry, providing attentive, focused service and support for our customers. In our continued investment in a wide-range of social initiatives we take pride in growing a sustainable future for our all.

Our Environmental Pillar.

At Vendella we are always developing new sustainable practises to protect and enhance our country’s incredibly stunning and absolutely precious natural environment.

We take our environmental responsibilities seriously.

Within our business we remain focused on reducing our carbon footprint, packaging waste, natural resource usage and our overall effect on the environment. On a global scene we remain focused on our supply chain and ensuring all suppliers are aware of the important responsibilities they have to the wider environment.

This approach is combined with comprehensive strategies designed to offset any effect our business has on the overall environment. Each year we recycle over two million plastic bottles and plant hundreds of native trees throughout the country.

Only with such continued innovation, passion and diligence can we ensure the New Zealand of tomorrow is one we are proud to have left the next generation.

This is why Vendella will continue to keep our sustainable ideals at the heart of our work: We will continue to reduce waste in our products, our packaging and our processes. We will strive to protect and champion our precious natural environment. We will advocate for change and inspire progression. We will help our customers in any way possible to meet and exceed their sustainability goals.

Our Economic Pillar.

Our company, community and country do not exist in isolation – everything that happens in one sphere has the potential to affect the others. That’s why we must always consider the bigger picture within any new sustainability initiative.

We’re Here For The Long Run.

Quite simply, in order to properly invest in long lasting and far-reaching environmental initiatives we must first have the resources of a thriving and innovative business. This is how we can stay busy researching and developing new ways of doing things both for our company, and for our customers.

Only with our adherence to best practise and commitment to above standard in compliance, governance and risk management can Vendella embark on new sustainability strategies. Only with a balanced and holistic approach can our entire organisation continue to grow and prosper.

So too does this approach transfer to how we work with our customers to ensure their sustainability gains are made without jeopardising the ongoing financial success of their business. No new technological innovation or environmental initiative works if it is simply not economically viable to New Zealand businesses.

This is why we must always take a pragmatic ‘best of both worlds’ approach to any new sustainability measure – ensuring that small, effective steps can continue to be made with increased momentum and future-forward effectiveness.

Plastic Bottles Recycled And Counting…

Meet DreamGreen

A clever three step recycling process transforms plastic bottles into a microfibre perfect for our luxury bedding range.

First plastic bottles are sterilised before being then reduced from their raw waste state into small flakes. These small flakes are spun into a yarn, which is then transformed into our premium hypoallergenic, microfibre. The final result is a high loft and luxurious softness that guests globally rave over. It’s an absolute win-win.

Cartons with a conscience.

You may have noticed our cartons look a little different nowadays… We have decided to transition from white paper cartons to brown paper cardboard. The main reason for the switch is the environmental impact of using white paper in the production of cartons. There is 50% more water used in the production of white paper and the chemicals used in the bleaching process are toxic. White cartons are also more likely to be made with virgin paper as opposed to their brown counterparts which are made up of a far higher percentage of recycled material. This made our decision to switch a no-brainer, so look out for our new cartons in your next order!
