BACKGROUND
Based in Northland, The Okorihi Marae is a meeting place for local hapū, where culture and family relationships are practiced and a tangi can be held. The Marae can seat up to 350 people and sleep 90 people comfortably. Various events are held at the marae, however when a death happens within the community, all events are canceled, and the funeral takes over. Beds and bedding items are needed by whanau and visitors while grieving and supporting the immediate whānau. The marae reopened its doors in June 2022 after a rebuild following a fire. This was made possible when the marae was granted approximately $1.7 million as part of the Government’s Oranga Marae programme.
THE PROJECT
Account Manager Greg Richards made contact with the chairperson to see how we could help fit-out the marae. Samples of the mattresses, pillows and sheeting were sent after having a quick discussion about our products. A proposal was sent to Board Member Martha Westerlund, along with two other quotes from other suppliers. As a result of this, Vendella came out on top as Greg provided a simple, straight-forward quote with a promise for an easy, supported process.
PROBLEMS WE SOLVED / REASONS FOR PARTNERING WITH VENDELLA
The marae board members said dealing with Greg was so easy, as he simplified the whole process and was able to provide all the relevant information that Martha needed. Vendella could also offer consignment orders, this then meant items were delivered to Martha and her team in a timely and orderly manner.
