BACKGROUND
Sanford own and operate six deep water fishing vessels which operate on expeditions around the Southern Ocean for up to six to eight weeks at a time. These vessels are:
- San Waitaki: 50 Crew
- San Enterprise: 40 Crew
- San Discovery: 40 Crew
- San Granit: 48 Crew
- San Aspiring: 32 Crew
- San Aotea II: 25 Crew
THE PROJECT
With one of Sanford’s fishing vessels breaking out in fire, it raised awareness across the company that they needed to upgrade their mattresses in the sleeping quarters to be fire-retardant. As there were no other suppliers who could provide this specific product with quick turn-around time, Vendella was given the opportunity to work with the Sanford team. We completely fitted out all of their vessels with our fire-retardant mattresses and other bedding items. These mattresses were manufactured to specification as each vessel required slightly different size depending on the crew quarter setup.
PROBLEMS WE SOLVED / REASONS FOR PARTNERING WITH VENDELLA
We were able to supply made-to-measure mattresses and other bedding items as Sanford’s were unable to source these from other bedding suppliers. Because of our direct relationship with manufacturers, we can tailor our products to fit specific requirements. Having this agility and the ability to deliver on tight timeframes was essential to our success in this project. Also the fact that Sanford only had to deal with one supplier for all of the product they needed made the whole process easy for their team.
